The Triebel Cup is an annual rugby tournament hosted by Frederick Rugby and Severn River Rugby in honor of a past teammate and state trooper: Tobin Triebel.
This year, the tournament is set to take place in Frederick on Saturday, April 30th. The day will feature non-stop rugby from 9am to 5pm, including matches between Frederick and Severn River’s youth, high school, women, men, and old-boy teams. A short presentation including the national anthem and a MD State Trooper color guard is scheduled for 1:15pm. The full schedule is included below. Food, drinks, a fundraising raffle, and a jersey auction will also be available.
All proceeds from the day’s fundraising efforts will go to benefit fallen and injured state troopers in Maryland. The donation will be made in honor of 1st Sgt. Tobin Triebel.
Triebel, a 13-year veteran of the force, was killed in an accident in 2008. He was a flight paramedic and supervisor of the training section at the department’s Aviation Headquarters in Baltimore. He spent most of his career at the aviation command’s Frederick hangar. The rugby field in Frederick Maryland is named the Tobin Theodore Treble Memorial Rugby Pitch in his honor, and includes a stone memorial and plaque at the facility entrance.
