Our spring itinerary is finalized and now posted to the website's schedule page. Our pre-season will kick off with a friendly scrimmage on North Bay's turf field on March 5th. From there we have a few weeks of practice before the competitive season kicks off.
On April 2nd we will start the competitive part of our season by traveling south to the Tidewater International Tournament. Then we have back to back Matrix games against Quantico and the Exiles, on April 9th and 16th, respectively. Both of those are home games, and will wrap up the Matrix season for Frederick Rugby.
April 30th marks The annual Triebel Cup with Severn River, in celebration of the man for whom our pitch is named. We alternate playing there and at home, and this year we are set to host. The event is also played with the women, youth, and old boys.
We'll face the Philly Gryphons on May 7th. We traveled up north and played them last year, so they are returning the favor with a trip down to our Pitch. This will be the last game of the spring season, but there are two huge events still on the books.
First, we have the Mid-Maryland Celtic Festival in Mount Airy on May 14th. This will be our second year contributing to the event, but this time we have a lot more planned. We will team up with the women's team (and possible the youth) to put on a demonstration and clinic at some point during the day. We will also have a booth at the event for recruitment and informational purposes. This is a great venue and will bring a lot of exposure to the team.
Then the next weekend we have the ever more popular Beer Bacon Music Festival at the Frederick Fairgrounds. We have been volunteering at this event for years and it is always a lot of fun for those that contribute. It's just about the most fun you can have while doing volunteer work and and we always manage to raise some funds for the team.
